LouChem started in June of 1968 to serve the employees of Rohm Haas Company.  As the Credit Union grew in reputation as a service oriented financial institution, other companies joined in so their employees could receive the benefit of LouChem.  In 2003, we reached out to the community that surrounds us to better those who want and deserve financial services in a cost-efficient manner with courteous service.

Our Motto: Changing our community by putting people first and making their dreams come true.

Our soundness is based on our exemplary business practices:

  • The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. Government Agency, insures your savings up to $250,000 and the funds in your IRA up to $250,000.
  • We invest your savings primarily in loans to fellow members. The remainder goes into federally financial institutions or U.S. Government-backed instruments.
  • We adhere to sound financial underwriting practices.
  • We provide members with professional guidance, which matches them with the right loan product option.
  • We are regularly examined by the National Credit Union Administration and audited by the independent auditing firm, Kenneth Kling, LLC.

In order to be eligible to join our credit union, you must fall within our Field of Membership.  Our Field of Membership consists of anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in Jefferson County, Kentucky.  For example, you live in Indiana and go to Church in Indiana, but work in Louisville, then you can be a member of LouChem.
Once you establish eligibility, members of your immediate family may join.  Immediate family is defined as anyone who is related by blood (including adoption) or marriage and they are a parent, child, or sibling.  In addition, anyone who lives in your household, may also join the Credit Union.

If you move, change jobs, graduate or change where you worship, you do not have to leave LouChem.  Our saying is “Once a member, always a member.”
